Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has rewarded each member of the state’s debate team with ₦20 million for winning the 2025 World Basic Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar. Their coaches and handlers also received ₦20 million each during a reception at Government House, Asaba.
The governor described the victory as a landmark achievement and proof of his administration’s commitment to educational excellence. He noted that Delta is known not only for oil and entertainment talents but also for academic brilliance, expressing hope that the gesture will inspire more youths to excel.
Oborevwori decorated the champions with their medals and received the championship trophy from Elder Dare Oritu, National Coordinator of the President’s Schools Debate Nigeria. He praised the students’ dedication and commended their parents, coaches, and handlers for their vital support.
